The Kindness Project: Caine’s Arcade
About The Kindness Project:
Too often kindness is relegated to a random act performed only when we’re feeling good. But an even greater kindness (to ourselves and others) occurs when we reach out even when we aren’t feeling entirely whole . It’s not easy, and no one is perfect. But we’ve decided it’s not impossible to brighten the world one smile, one kind word, one blog post at a time. To that end, a few of us writers have established The Kindness Project, starting with a series of inspirational posts.
Caine’s Arcade
Today’s post is a simple one. It’s about kindness to a child simply because he’s doing a good job of being a child. Meet Cain, a 9-year-old boy whose dream is to own an arcade. And meet Nirvan, the guy who thought it was about time he had some customers.
I’m a sap, and I cry every time I see this video–not sad tears, but just tears of faith-restored-in-humanity. Sometimes you need that reminder.

awwwwwwwwwww. I can’t even… That is so freaking sweet! Thank you for bringing such a sappy smile to my face today. 🙂
I think this hit me so hard because my son is 10 and so much like Caine. He designs and builds his own board games, writes stories, invents toys, etc. I’m so thrilled for Caine that he got to show the world his creations. Nothing should stifle that special little guy’s creativity. He’s got big things ahead of him. And it only took the kindness of one person ro make a big difference.
Oh man, this made me cry. That little boy and his dream. “Best cardboard arcade ever made.” That staff shirt, and the tickets he feed through, and that flash mob! Amazing. Just amazing. I’m in awe. So often we neglect our children’s dreams. What Nirvan did wasn’t so hard, really, but so few would ever do it. I’m so moved.
Oh, wow! I watched this whole thing and am so glad I did. I mean, now I’m a tearful mess, but a happy one. Thanks for sharing this!
What a gorgeous video. So sweet. And what an amazing little boy.. Love love love it. Thank you so much for sharing. Definitely restores your faith in human nature. What a nice man Nirvan is too.
Oh my goodness, that was amazing, Megan! What a sweet, creative, wonderful kid. I can’t wait to show my boys when they get home from school. I think my favorite is the “calculator security system” bit– so awesome. Thanks for sharing.
His t-shirt says “staff?” :sniffs:
Oh my goodness…I’m crying now. That was so adorable. That video is exactly what the Kindness Project is all about.
Love it! I can’t get over the joy in the faces of the flash mob. Caine is not the only one who had a great day. I especially like the little girl riding on her dad’s shoulders in the orange tutu (the girl, not the dad!).
