Progress Updates!
So first, the big news: THE IRON WOOD has sold in Israel!! My mind is just boggling. The idea that my little book has not just found one publisher, but also found homes overseas, and is now going to be published in an entirely different alphabet? No way to process that!
This week I’ve been getting more into revisions on THE IRON WOOD, which is actually… FUN. (I had to wait a second to see if the universe imploded after I said that. No? Okay.) Normally I hate revising, usually because I can’t tell if I’m helping or harming my manuscript. I have to say that working with my editor is awesome. He has such wonderful suggestions that I can actually see the book getting better, bit by bit. I’m not saying revisions are going to be awesome and fun forever, because we’re only just getting started, but for now I’m definitely enjoying it.
And finally, this: I signed my U.S. publishing contract today! Today has been a fantastic day, for a variety of reasons, not all of which I can share yet. But signing my contract was definitely one of the highlights of the week. It’s just squiggling a pen on some paper, when you come right down to it, but for the first time, it’s all starting to feel a little like it’s real.(But only a very little.)
I totally had a dream last night where I received the ARCs for my book. But–get this–they had the blank white TBA covers on them! I mean, come on, subconscious! At least summon up an awesome cover for me to drool over. Gipped!
That’s all I’ve got for you today, as my brain is too busy dancing a jig to come up with anything else. What’re you all up to this weekend? Anything good?
That’s fantastic news! a HUGE congrats for your success! How exciting 🙂
Thank you! I’m still at the “wait, someone wants to publish me? for serious?” stage. I keep waiting for it to make sense! 😛
Meagan,
This is all so super exciting! I bet the name on paper makes it more real. So wonderful seeing hard work and talent rewarded!
It definitely does make it at least a little more real! Although I must admit, most days I still have to remind myself. 😛
Yay, congrats on all the foreign sales! World domination soon? 😉
Do you know when you’ll get the cover for real, or is that still a while away yet? From the description I can see it being all sparkly and forest-y 😀
I have noooo idea when I’ll see the cover! I’m totally dying to see it, though. I’d love it to be all magic forest-y!
Hurrah! That’s a good dream. Save it for your biopic! Or for a future book about a writer.
Bwahahaha! True.
Mazel Tov!
Haha, thanks!!
Congratulatios on the sale! Woot!
Thanks!! It’s pretty exciting. 😀
In a DIFFERENT ALPHABET? ZOMG that IS freaking awesome!!!
Congrats Meagan! 😀
Honestly can’t wait to get some magicpunk into my life.
…Is it 2012 yet?
I know, right? I’m still boggling! (And definitely counting the days to next year. :P)
Still can’t get over Israel. That’s going to be one awesome copy of the book to hold in your hands!
Huzzah for signing contracts, and huzzah for an AWESOME WEEK. It’s so interesting watching you revise with Andrew, and I can totally identify with that need to know whether you’re actually making it better or not. Having somebody to tell you must be awesome!
I cannot believe your subconscious ripped us off like that. Come ooonnnn!
Awesome week indeed! And yeah, I’m pretty miffed about that dream. I mean, I’m a creative person, right? Surely my brain could come up with SOMETHING. XD
Super Congrats! That’s awesome news!
Thanks!
I’m sure it feels surreal. The locket is beautiful. Enjoy it. And good luck!
Thanks! Etsy is the best site ever, basically. 🙂
Congratulations! We all need to let ourselves celebrate in our own way. And what a cool memory of all you’ve accomplished! 🙂
Thanks! Celebrating is definitely important, just as part of the process.
Congratulations on all your progress!!
Forgive my question as I know nothing about publishing: What does it mean to be published in various individual countries? Can you only buy the book in those countries/from a retailer that ships to those countries? Why are the contracts coming at different times?
Emily (H.) R.
Don’t apologize for asking, no one’s born knowing all this stuff. 😛
My particular contract in the U.S. is for English language North American rights–so basically the U.S. and Canada. This means that my agent can then sell the rights to publish in other languages and in other countries to different publishers.
The publishers who have bought my book overseas are in no way affiliated with the publisher who bought my book in the U.S. The contracts come at different times because different countries operate at different speeds, and the deals don’t all go through at the same time. For example, Heyne is publishing my book in Germany, Random House in England, and Carolrhoda here in the U.S.–all different companies!
You’ll be able to buy the book in any of the countries who have bought it (so far, US, UK, France, Germany, and Israel). It will be translated into foreign languages, though, in the countries that don’t speak English. 😛
