Miscellany!
I’m about to head out to the wilderness (a well-established camp site on a beach) to camp out (stay in a massive tent and sleep on an air mattress) which will mean, gasp, that I will have no internet for the next five days! So I will post a few miscellaneous things today, and be back with you next week.
- Just in case there’s anyone reading this who has yet to discover the blog of my fantastic critique partner, Amie Kaufman, you should head over to her site and read our collaborative post on collaboration. (It’s so meta it hurts.) We’ve been collaborating on writing for years in the form of just-for-fun ongoing character sketches and scenes, but never quite had the courage to try and write a book together for fear it might mess up our friendship. This past September at WorldCon in Melbourne, however, we attended a panel on collaboration in which Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman really inspired us to give it a try. If you’ve ever thought about collaborating, Amie and I talk about what works for us and what we’ve learned since we started.
- Amie’s husband pointed us toward this song a while back and I’ve been listening to it a lot–I just love this guy’s passion for the song! It makes me dance around my room and sing, and that’s a good thing.
- I got a metric ton of compliments on my site when it went up, which I adore, but for which I can actually take no credit. The site design is a result of me going to my amazing designer friend, Kim Nguyen, and waving my arms wildly while babbling about magic and clockwork until she told me to go away and come back later. I came back later, and this site was what she’d come up with. Talk about amazing, right? Anyway, she’s just let me know that she’s got some time for freelance work again. So if anyone likes this web design and is thinking about hiring someone for their own site, definitely look her up!
This is who I’ll be spending the next five days with. Apparently they’re pretty numerous in the area where we’re camping. I just hope they stay relatively quiet–you would not BELIEVE how noisy these guys get after dark. Unearthly howling and bellowing like you cannot imagine! At least they’re pretty cute.
Happy Easter, and see you all next week! Eat lots of chocolate!
I freaking LOVED that song! AMAZING for a spontaneous dance party! Thanks for recommending it!!!!! <3 <3
Also: I'm SO jealous that you're going to be hanging out with koalas!!! Give one a cuddle for me!!!!
Isn’t it awesome? I seriously challenge anyone to listen to it and not get that antsy urge to get up and dance.
Koalas are EVIL… apparently they like scratch you if you touch them and then pee in the scratches, no joke. I will settle for thinking they’re cute from a distance. O_O
LMAO. Omg–that just ruined my life. How can something so cute be so wicked?!!?!?! *sobs*
I worked at the Koala Conservation Centre on Phillip Island for awhile, and not only can they be vicious little buggers, but one of the rangers told me they all have chlamydia. So vicious, noisy and diseased. But very cute. I think you made a wise choice to just look at them. 🙂 Hope you’re having a fabulous trip!
There were definitely koalas everywhere–or possibly just one really persistent koala–at the camp site. One walked up and peed right at the opening to my tent.
D:
LOL. Nice. “Welcome to the neighbourhood, bitches.”
This song made me smile so much.
Ahh Koalas, I prefer admiring their cuteness from afar too.
Yaay, I’m glad you liked the song! It’s definitely one of my new favorites. I’ve been trying not to loop it so much that it loses its effect!
Oof. Koalas. What can you say. ><
Hope you’re having fun camping! Koalas are cute, but I don’t think I’d like to run into one close up. And yes, your website looks amazing!
