BOOK DEAL NEWS!

Some of you who are readers of either my blog or Amie Kaufman’s blog may know that we’ve been working on a collaborative novel together. We’ve been writing together in one form or another ever since we met a bit over six years ago, so it seemed like no big thing to evolve from that to writing a novel together, but—at the risk of sounding totally lame—once we started working on WRECKED, we knew it was something pretty awesome.
We finally finished the first draft at the end of October, though “first draft” is a bit misleading—through our collaboration we’d done a ton of editing for each other, so it was a much tighter draft than that implies. We gave it to our amazing agents (we knew being in the same agency would come in handy!) and they raced through it and gave us a weekend to make a few changes before they sent it off to editors.
We talked to some really awesome editors, but in the end we knew EXACTLY who we wanted to work with. So with no further ado, here’s what you came to see!
Since my blog shrinks it down to illegibility (though you can click through to see it in all its glory) here’s the text:
“Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner’s WRECKED, pitched as Titanic in outer space, in which a wealthy teen socialite and a young war hero crash land on an uncharted planet after their flagship spaceliner goes down mid-voyage, forcing them to confront harsh conditions, otherworldly incidents, and their own mutual attraction, to Abby Ranger at Disney-Hyperion, in a significant deal, at auction, in a three-book deal, for publication in Summer 2013, by Josh Adams and Tracey Adams at Adams Literary (World English).”
WOOOOO! BOOK DEAL! This is doubly awesome because this is Amie’s first sale. I think she’s too psyched to be mad at me for saying, but there’s been a ton of exclamation points and dancing and shouting and crying. On both sides. Thank you Josh and Tracey and Quinlan–you guys are seriously the best. And thank you to Abby–we are SO excited to work with her!
So be sure to go to Amie’s blog and congratulate her! She is the best—I don’t think I could write with anyone else. And there’s certainly no one else who deserves this more than she does.
